As we continue to search for signs of elegance and grace in the world, we would be remiss if we didn’t mention the lovely Lee Meriwether. It’s not the fact that Miss Meriwether was Miss San Francisco, Miss California or Miss America that makes her “lovely.” It’s not the fact that she was “Catwoman” nor any of her glamorous screen or stage roles. No, Lee Meriwether’s beauty comes from something far greater—a generous spirit.

Whether you know Lee Meriwether as “Catwoman,” Barnaby Jones’ “Betty,” Pine Valley’s “Ruth Martin” or from any of her numerous film, television or stage appearances, you can tell that you’re watching an exceptional person.

However, it’s not Lee Meriwether’s career that’s made her our first “Person of the Week” of 2011. It’s her years of tireless volunteer work.

After working with Ability First (formerly known as the Crippled Children’s Society) for many years, Miss Meriwether was appointed their Honorary Chairperson. Miss Meriwether was twice named “Angel of the Year” by Women in Show Business. She has also served as National Education Chairman for the American Cancer Society. Her efforts have included helping animals in need as she assisted “Actors and Other Animals.” This “angel’s” giving nature has also extended to many other organizations including The Blind Children’s Center and The Jeffrey Foundation. She also served as Chairperson for the Los Angeles Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Lee Meriwether has managed to maintain a highly active career in entertainment while still supporting the people and causes in which she cares most deeply. All the while, she’s been a devoted, wife, mother, and grandmother. Now, that is what I would call “lovely.” For her natural loveliness, Lee Meriwether is 2011’s first “Person of the Week.”
